The lift of the 1977 F150 continues. I've gotten to the part were I need to replace the stock pitman arm with the drop arm, but I noticed the stock pitman has a "bolt" (not really a bolt, but I can't think of what it's called and it has a grease fitting.) that attaches to the drag link. The new pitman arm doesn't. How do I attach the drag link to the new drop pitman arm??
In advance, I'd like to thank everyone that has helped me out so far and the web site as well. Very helpfull and great information..Keep up the great work!
your drag link has a threaded bolt on the ball joint on the end that goes through a hole in your pitman arm. Take the nut off and use a pickle fork to seperate the two then you'll see that the stock one has a hole just like your drop arm.
Oops! I just re-read your post and it sounds like you took the end off of your drag link and the end is still attached to the pitman arm. If that's the case you need to drive a pickle fork in between the two after the nut is removed and then put the end back on your drag link.
does your 77 have the original steering parts? if so, it has the upside down y style steering linkage. I just did this to my 77, it was the only year ford used this steering until 1980. The pitman arm is different. You have to use 1978-79 style linkage, which has a bar going from one steering knucke to the other, then from the drivers side to the pitmarm arm. It is easy to change, just find a truck in the junkyard and get the steering linkage and it will line right up with your new pitman arm. I don't think you can use the upside down y style with a lift kit, I read that somewhere in a lift kit site.
