I have a 97 F150 extended cab. I recently purchase the truck and i have no trailer lights. The truck has factory wiring for tow package. The rear plug states, electric brakes. However i do not see any controller inside the cab.
Is there factory wiring that i can plug a new controller unit into.
If so, where is it?
How many wires and what color are they?
also i checked all fuses and all good but still no lights to trailer. checked connections they are good.
Also, can the removal of the old box obstruct my lights to trailer from working ?
The chassis is wired for a brake controller, but you have to buy & install it. Tekonsha is one of the better brands.
Get a Ford (Helm) service CD from the classifeds here or eBay - they're only a few bucks plus shipping. It'll show you EVERY wire, connector, circuit, & system (plus everything else about the vehicle) on every truck & van of one model year, so buy the '97 Truck CD.
Not on CD - they're only available for '92-up, and I think around 2000, they went to DVD. You'll have to contact Helm or search eBay for some paper ones.
My 1998 F150 Supercab also has the towing package with the same problem. I have the seven pin connector at the back, but cannot get any lights to work there. Is there an additional fusebox for the towing connector that might have a blown fuse?
Thanks, Rick

Yes, there are dedicated relays and fuses for the tow harness usually located in the fuse box under the hood. If everything is in place, and it still won't work, look under and around the fuse box for wires that may have never been hooked up at the factory for the tow harness.
