Can this thread be updated and the pics reloaded, as the links have expired. Thanks!
I do still have all the photos, forgot when I deleted my PhotoBucket account some posted imaged would go away. If you're following this give me a day or so to recreate the links.
I started on this same project a year ago. I got as far as finding out the F series cluster from a 97 was the one to use. I started to get the 2 different "pin" diagrams, but havent got around to cross referencing them. There also was a post about a tach signal feed wire, in front of the firewall in the wire loom. White color, if I remember correctly. The thought had crossed my mind, if the tach feed in the wire loom would be the proper signal for the F series tach,or for an aftermarket tach.I dont know if it would make a difference or not. Would the signal voltage be different?I too, would like to see the original pics posted. This is one of those "winter" projects for me. rick

The original photos associated with this particular cluster thread wouldn't be any particular help to adding an F-Series cluster w/tach into an E-Series. The original intent was to show the working parts inside the cluster in case someone wanted to try repairing one that had failed.
Modifications are made to the chassis wiring---once that's completed simply plugging the "new" cluster into the E-Series chassis should have all functions working as expected.
The CTO or "clean tach out" wire is indeed under the hood, just above the master cylinder in a wire chase running from left-to-right---most times that wire is part of a small bundle loosely tied together and tucked away inside that chase. IIRC the CTO is a white/pink wire that needs to be extended into the cabin and terminated in one of the cluster plugs. There is one or possibly two ground wires from the cluster that need to be connected for proper operation.
If you're running factory Vehicle Speed Control and the "new" cluster has a lamp that lights when VSC is engaged you'd need to modify the servo connector to accept a wire running to that connection on the chassis wiring plug that eventually feeds that circuit on the cluster.
All this info is DIY determined by using the appropriate EVTM's of the donor vehicle and the van you're adding this to----it's how I did it.
BTW Rick I'm okay to share info but I'd rather not revive or continue that in this thread. We're veering away from the original intent, both issues eventually becoming lost in the process. You're welcome to PM me here.
I'm now following this thread - new owner of a 1999 E450 bus that's got some speedo issues (only goes to 40 - does not stand up in court) that I'll need to dig in to. Pics would be especially helpful.

Thanks a ton for this!
Images have been restored now---hope they're helpful.
Thanks! Those pics are gold! On my '99, the speedo doesn't go over 40mph (it's accurate under 40, just wont go farther) and I need to track down where the failure is. I wouldn't mind replacing the dash with something more 'fun', but that's way low on the priority list.

You may also be having problems with the sensor feeding the cluster's speedo----don't forget to test that as well. If the speedo works only up to a certain speed AND the odo is registering chances are this isn't related to the cluster and its bits. I'm just speculating mind you---hope its something simple and cheap to fix!
Wow, great thread JWA. Thanks for posting and updating.
I've wondered if I could "swap out" the cluster in our '03.....................
This thread wasn't intended to be a Q&A about cluster issues, hot-to do this, that or the other thing--meant only to show what a cluster from this era looks like inside the complete housing as it would have arrived from the factory.
Please post your questions about clusters etc in the Van's Forums.
