I'm new here. I have a 1997 F350 Crewcab longbed dually that has been great up until recently. The fuel gauge on the front tank quit working some time ago but I put off fixing it. Last month a leak in that tank developed so i figure, OK, I'll replace the sending unit when I drop the tank to see what the cause of the leak is. Well, the tank's rusty, has a pinhole in it. I looked at the sender and it's attached (welded?)to the tank pickup tubes....The sender has a bracket with holes for mounting. But there is nothing on the pickup tube to mount to....?!? Has anyone had this issue? I contacted the Ford dealer and was told this part(the pickup tube) is no longer available. No aftermarket pickup tubes are available. Any suggestions?
I would look into those titan tanks. made of poly to be rust proof. I think these could be made to fit an OBS. http://www.titanfueltanks.com/images...-w-caption.jpg
sure wish one of you would foot the bill for one of these so I can see for sure that they can be made to fit our trucks.
Yeah, I've been looking at those custom aftermarket tanks. I don't want to spend $1400.00 on a fuel tank, even if it does hold 51 gallons. I had thought of installing an auxilary tank but they have to be run through the existing tank(to be DOT compliant)....so I'm back to square one?@!#$
Are you running a comercial rig? if not I wouldnt worry about DOT. an in bed aux tank could be plumbed directly to the tank selector valve. or do you have to get it looked at as a precondition for your registration? theres always transferflow. their tanks have electric pumps and you could plumb it to the rear tank?
I'm going commercial. Hauling new RV's from Indiana. I have to get a DOT inspection too. I'm looking into the junk yards but not getting a lot of cooperation. One of them told me that, yes, they did have a 97 F350 in their inventory but they did not know if it even had a fuel tank. Whatever happened to the wreckingyards having a network to find the parts you were looking for?
Honestly I would think that a 16 year old tank is going to be 16 years old and not in too good of condition weather its under your truck or in a junk yard. i would try rock auto thats where people here go for the big 38 gallon rear tank mod.
I have a new midship tank coming tommorrow. It's the pickup tube with the aforementioned attached sender that i can't locate. This is the first I've heard of a 38 gallon rear tank though. Tell me more. Do you have to remove the spare tire? Also, are us newbies unable to send a PM?

It sounds like you will be making a junkyard visit
I got your message but I can't PM you. Thanks man! I'm in Tallahassee, Florida. the tank in question is the front, or midship tank. It's a 19 gallon steel tank. I think it's 59 inches long if that helps. I have a new tank coming but the pickup tubes with the connected sending unit is what I can't seem to find. Any help is greatly appreciated..
