So my truck is messing with my head. Twice now, after driving a short distance and trying to restart, she just cranks and will not fire. Both times I received a code for the throttle position sensor. My question is that I had the tps go out once and the truck started and ran but would not respond to throttle input. Realistically I know it's probably time for a new pedal assembly but I have adjustable pedals and I definitely don't remember the pedal being that pricey the last time! Any thoughts?
Well, the plot thickens. Last week-end I remembered having trouble after replacing my glow plugs and the truck wouldn't start. I didn't fully tighten the large harness connector on the D/S valve cover. I pulled it apart and verified everything is clean and all pins are straight. No problems all week and now it leaves the wife stranded across town. Here's what I saw, when I got there I had a P0221 code for the TPS. Cranked but no start, I looked over everything and even tried disconnecting the IPR, checked all connections and nothing. Finally after everything is hooked up and for no real reason, she fired up but I could tell the throttle was waaaaayyyyy too sensitive and the truck kind of jerked. Brought it home, disconnected the TPS and just as I thought, the truck started and idled. Could I have a bad IDM or ECM? At this point nothing's cheap but I really don't want to start just throwing parts at it. Any ideas?
What are you using to pull codes? Can you monitor live data and watch the accelerator pedal position % with your scanner? That might tell you how it's working.
I'm reading data off of my bully dog GT tuner. After I reinstalled the pedal tonight I was able to pull up throttle position with the key on, engine off and it's smooth from 0-100%. I have to admit I'm stumped.
