I bought a used '91 F350 Crew Cab 4 X 4. It has a 460 if that makes any difference. I'm trying to figure out what rear end is in it. I don't see any fill or drain plugs at a quick glance. The tag has the following in upper left of tag V132C Bottom left looks like 4L 10 bottom center of tag 10 2 Bottom right of tag 0H31
How do you tell a sterling from a Dana 80? Thanks for any help!!

 

4l 10 means that you have 4:10 gears with a limited slip.

You should have a Sterling 10.25. IIRC, the dana 80 was only in the f super dutys.

But by looking at it, the sterling cover is very square in shape, and the dana 80 cover will be diamond shaped. Do a quick google image search on the two if your not sure.

 

Yup you have 4.10 L/S gears. Which is a good pulling gear. The fill plug on the Sterling 10.25 is actually on the forward facing side of the axle, on the drivers side of the differential, which is why you probably couldn't find it.

 

The rear axle is a sterling 10.25 hence the 10 2 in the bottom line of the tag
