V10 Instrument Validity
V10 Instrument Validity
I have a new 2002 motorhome on an F53 chassis (that uses the Triton V10). While I love the readings the instrument panel gauges give me, I question their validity for a couple of reasons. The temperature gauge never varies from its rock solid position of about 1/3 full scale (after 5 minutes of warm up) regardless of load or climate conditions, and the oil pressure gauge is similarly rock solid at about 2/3 full scale. In every other vehicle I've had, the temperature gauge varied with driving conditions, and if the engine was turned off for 5-10 minutes, the gauge would read hot until the water circulated for a few minutes after restarting. Oil pressure on other vehicles always drops below the normal driving level when at ilde (after warmup). These gauges never vary. Does anyone have an explanation for the apparently anomalous operation compared to all other vehicles?
They are idiot gauges! They only move if something is drastically out of norm. By the time the oil pressure gauge moves, it's probably too late. Supposedly, this keeps stress on the driver at a minimum since an operational gauge may cause undue concern when variations occur! I wish these gauge were accurate.

Well I will say I got some bum advice on this subject not to long ago. I was complaining that my temp gauge was barely above the operating temp line and that it was just the gauge and not the thermostat. Well needless to say being a mechanic on construction equipment which is older then me but I am deathly afraid of computers I installed a new thermostat. The temp gauge went up and the pickup runs alot better. After a few conversations with the dealer I got a digital thermometer and cranked my heater up and was getting 160 degrees out of my vents after I changed thermostats. Well I still was not satisfied so I reaplaced my sender today and it reads the same but the coolant was at 185 degrees and the needle at 1/3 up. So try those tricks and see what happens.

Well, I can only wish my temp gauge would stay somewhat stationery.
I have a 2000 Dutchstar Motorhome with a V1-. Runs great on level roads and below 65 MPH. But, when I climb a upgrade on the interstate and especially if the dash air is on, the temp climbs.
Dealer changed out the thermostat about 8 months ago. All seemed well as I have been taking only short trips. Well! I just returned from Orlando (400 miles) and yes it's back!
as soon as I begin climbing a upgrade 65MPH or greater, the temp starts climbing.
Been to9ld I probably have some air in the cooling system But, no one can tell me how to bleed it out?
HELP!!!!!
