TTB modification to solid axle?
here's on for ya. i got tired of trashing the 2.5" lift coils on my ttb bronco, so i borrowed coils from a junked '75 f-250 4x2. the coils give about 4+ inches lift over stock and mount up exactly the same as 4x4 coils, and are rated for more weight. they still flex well enough for wheelin articulation purposes. i run 2.5" lift brackets for ttb axle housing and camber/caster adjustable bushings in upper ball joints for alignment and spec out good enough for wheelin. i'm thinking of removing the lift brackets from the ttb halves and welding/fixing the halves together to give a solid axle effect. does this work, has anyone tried this? it should work, am tired of breaking that u-joint. i don't want to do the REAL solid axle swap. thanks!!

Save yourself the trouble. Go looking around and find a dana 44 solid or a dana 60 (rare) annd install that. Much cleaner and easier to get parts to fix later on.

I'd have to agree.....you'll still need to add a trac bar and if your going to take the time to weld the two halves together you might as well just swap in a real one.

crap! thanks for the hint. i just installed the detroit and rebuilt the front 3rd member, it's just a money thing, hate wasting it! i don't think anything is reusable toward a 44 solid (high pinion vs. low pinion). i'll figure something out. thanks!

sure its all reusable. My ttb is a high pinion, so i'm assuming so is yours. The solid axle i'm building out of a 79 F150 is a high pinion as well. i'm actually swapping the gears and stuff over into it.
