NightRacer,

OK, now you are getting somewhere. The first photo shows what is left of the PVS on the thermostat housing. The second photo is the part that should be connected to it. It is broken so you will need a new one. LMC has them - $25, you can check other vendors - BOTP, JBG, RockAuto, ETC.

I was the one who asked if you had another emissions piece below the vacuum reservoir - you don't so that makes this easier. You are holding what is left of a 3 port PVS in the second photo - that is what you need. This is what it looks like -

Order that and post up when you get it. I will tell you how to run your vacuum lines when you have it. Until then have you connected the vacuum lines like OldStyle and I have said? Once you do it should run but you may need to adjust the timing.

NightRacer,

Good - your're almost there. I looked around for you and found black, brown, yellow and green. The green one comes without the solenoid - not sure about that? These run off of coolant temp. Look at your old parts for any numbers to help you identify it. Can you clean up the part you are holding in your 2nd photo to see the color or numbers?

Do you have O'Reilly's in your area? They carry the same ones RockAuto does and might be quicker. Just an idea.

OK, passenger side port - take the line you have running to your vacuum advance on your distributor and connect it to that port. Middle port - run a new line to the vacuum advance on the distributor. Driver side port - you already connected a line from the intake manifold to the bottom of the vacuum reservoir correct? Cut that line and add a 3 way tee - run a line from driver side port to the tee. If you are using a factory air cleaner use a 4 way tee and run another line to the top of the air cleaner.

This may or may not be the way yours came from the factory. Probably not -there are 10-20 different vacuum diagrams that I have seen. This is from an original Ford drawing I found when I was searching for this info a couple of years ago. This will work fine the way you have your truck set up now.

The next step is to buy 15-20 ft of 5/32" vacuum hose and 3 new 3/16" tees and replace all vacuum lines with new. Also replace the hose from your brake booster to the vacuum tree on the back of the intake manifold. If your truck is auto trans replace vacuum line(s) running to that.

Let us know how it works.

Well I got the new starter in and the truck runs great. Only problem at the moment is that the squirters are not filling the bowl up pre-start. So took a little bit extra to get it to start but once started ran the best it has in a long time. Also i have a red colored spring off the carb that I could not figure out where it goes..I am positive it goes on the passenger side, but I am not sure. if anyone can post up a good picture so I can compare would much appericate it.

Vacuum Line Nightmear gone good

Thank you for this thread! It is getting me on the right track. My 79 is running better to say the least. I am going to wait for a nice sunny Alaskan Day to take pictures of the bay and start from scratch.

Thanks to all of your pictures and Diagram I was able to find a major Vacuum leak (Actually the previous owner removed the diafram at the back of the base of the carb, EGR I think and did not plug the hole.)

The motor smoothed out softer than a baby's butt, no more stalling when cold, shifts better.... Awsome stuff

I do not have AC nor the CAN, but I know their are other lines that are wrong.

I am rebuilding this truck so I have something to leave my son when I am gone....

Any recommendations on High Quality Vacuum lines, or a link to a supplier?

Any auto parts store should sell cut-to-length vacuum hose, just specify the inner diameter (ID).
