vintage air

Does anyone have any experience with these, particularly the slim line model. I live about 2miles away from classicautoparts so I can pick it up from there. My 68 doesnt have ac so I am wanting to prepare for another hot oklahoma summer. Here is a link to see what I am talking about. Vintage Air Slim Line Underdash Systems - SummitRacing.com

I was just curious how these under dash self contained kits fit with the heater box and hoses fit.

What size motor do you have. 302-360? I have a 360. When I bought the truck it had an a/c system in it but was not working. The bracket for the A/c system sits over the power steering pump. I am also conserned with the bracket for the power steering pump. I dont know if it is stock or came with the old A/C kit. It has 2 bolts that go to the water pump and 1 that goes to the driver side head. the pump is connected to this bracket with 3 nuts through the top of this bracket and has one nut on the end used to tighen the belt. Do you have this set up? I can't tell if this kits bracket will work with what I have.

That sound like the OE that ford used for the big york ac pump, had with extra support bracket one mounts to exh. manifold. It has 3 mounting bolts that bolts to the block & head. If the new ac unit comes with a ac pump it will most likely be a 508 sanden pump setup for r134 freon . Some kits come with the adapter mount. It bolts to the stock OE one so this you'll need you ask about...Like most units that are sold today. But r12 can still be found on Craigslist 20-30 bucks per can and ebay if you have Lic. buy it. But With 134r mount your condenser as close as you can to the radiator 3/8"-1/2" so you'll get good pull of air from your fan through it will add better cooling. Doing this will help in stop & go driving as the 134r does not cool good with this type of driving. my 2cents orich

If you have some pictures it would be great. I like the look of the unit you used as well. It looks almost just like the one that was in the truck when I bought it. The only thing I did not likr was the bracket that held the A/C. Part of it looked like was altered to make it fit. Did you have to alter your bracket or did it bolt up fine? Is your OEM bracket like I described or is it different? Do you have a 302 or 360?

mine is a 67 so it's a 352.
i used oem pwr steering (mostly a stamped steel plate.) and the bracket with the kit fit without any issues. some kits i looked did not come with any bracket. my biggest issue was crank pulley as my truck being odd a had to change the harmonic balancer. also, this has been a few years back so i dont recall every detail! can take underhood photo tomorrow.

If you can would you get the number off the steel plate. I plan on getting the unit you bought and would like to be able to have the correct power steering bracket so I can just bolt it all up. Looking forward to looking at the pictures.

Am I confused, I thought the vintage air kits were self contained. Nothing to mount in the engine bay. I realize that the link in the post #2 has alot more too it. Im just curious how it mounted up with the stock heat and defrost equipment under the dash.

The unit still has to run on a compressor. You have to run hoses and all that stuff like any other A/C. I am talking about the bracket that comes in the kit to mount the compressor. I want to make surre before I order the kit I have the right brackets on my truck to just add the new A/C bracket hook everthing else up and be ready to suck up some A/C. I am going to try to take a picture of my enginge and post it on here. I looked around on the net and saw some pictures Of trucks with the same power steering bracket I have so I think I have the stock one. Just was not sure.

I went and talked to classicautoparts, he pretty much confirmed what you guys have been saying. Cheapest for a complete kit runs about 1200 for vintage air.
