noise when turning

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jul-02 AT 07:51 PM (EST)]today i noticed a noise when i turn, its a real nasty noise, kind of deep but grotesque. i tried to search but couldnt find exactly what it was, the noise can be heard from the outside of the truck and in the floor (vibration) its not the power steering. its sounds like my bearings need replacing or something, maybe loose transmission mounts, u joints, any ideas? well midas took the front end apart today to put spacers in but i didnt have the right hardware so they put it back together. maybe they didnt tighten something or i have no idea please help.

Sounds awfully like my noise, which is my power steering pump.

noise when turning

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 23-Jul-02 AT 08:53 PM (EST)]if it was my power steering it would make that noise even if i was stopped turning my wheel. i over heated the fluid the other day and it went all over the place and my pump was making a nasty noise but refilled it. no this problem is def something else. i know what the power steering problem sounds like.

By the way i just noticed that it only makes the sound when i turn left so i think ive narrowed it down to something loose.

I don't think it's the U-joints, the u-joints are also going bad in my truck and they make more of a clunking type noise.

noise when turning

I have a '90 F-150, I had the same problem at first then my power steering geerBox went out, Creating hell on earth for me. I had to fill it back up at every stoplight on the way to the garage. Leaked like a siv. It Cost a about 150.00 to fix. Corrosion was at fault, I live in Iowa- One word winter..Salt on road.

I live in Iowa too! I know what you are talking about. My steering box was just replaced under warranty. When I got home to take a look at the work, the Ford guys overfilled my pump. Now I am getting that "low moan" when I turn the wheel, however it is intermittent. Time to take it back and let them figure out what it is about.
