After 3 full set of zd-11's in 5 years, I finally hooked them up to a momentary switch on the dash. Works like a charm. Now I shouldn't be burning them out so quick.
I would think you could determine the status of those sensors with AE. I have yet to buy it myself so I could be mistaken. isnt there also a 2 minute time limit also? seem to recall reading that somewhere. I wouldnt consider your input jacking the thread.

Yes AE will read those sensors. My 96 has a NAW4 PCM that would light the glowplugs for just under 2 minutes no matter what. It could be 115* in Phoenix and with the engine at operating temperature if I shut the truck off and started it up right away it would still light them again. ( I have a LED that comes on when the plugs are on) With a chip burned to TDE1 code the PCM uses info from the EOT and Baro sensors to determine GP run time.
Other than a hot start, I have to run them every time. All year. I have had to anyway. Now it doesn't matter. They're only on when I tell them. Thanks for the input. I knew their had to be a reason the stayed on so long, but hadn't bothered finding out why.
AE will tell you not only EOT and Baro, but the calculated GPR run time. Was just out last night fiddling with the two '95s, both SOD3 PCMs IIRC, stone cold engine, EOT aprx. 48F (ambient temp), I forget the Baro, the run time was 76 seconds on both. It'd be interesting to compare the run time on a cold engine among the various PCM codes.
