does anyone know how the radio comes out of my1991 f-150, I gather the plastic cover that goes around the heater controls and the radio has to come off, but not sure how that pops off, I have a factory 89 mustang radio I want to swap in place of the one in my truck, they look the same, its just that my truck radio/tape deck doesn't work
the trim ring should just pull off then it's just 4 screws. unless you have the newer radio that is held in place by it's own snap tight brackets then you need a special tool to get it out.
just pulled mine to replace the led buld behind the face plate. i bought the tool to do the job at auto value (any generic auto store should carry the tool). the tool consists of two pieces of u shaped steel each of which get pushed into either side of the radio faceplate.. no screws. just push the tools in and pry them away from each other and pull. the radio should pop out. don't forget to pry the tools away from each other.

Where did you get an led bulb?Mine is out too I think. It has been out for years.
You can make the tool yourself also. I made mine form a metal coat hanger. You just have to bend the wire to make a U shape. It should be about two inches long.
swaped the radio out, pulled the outer housing off and there was 4 screws holding the radio in, I swaped it for a radio out of a 89 mustang, it had the clips on each side that hold the radio in, the clips that you need the special tool for, I swaped brackets to make it fit, but after I installed it I noticed the bulb must be burned out for the clock and station indicater, I'll have to put a new bulb in tomorrow, thanks for your help guys
My radio wouldnt light up and you could barely see what time it was or the station you had it on. I just replaced the little frosty bulb with one from Walmart. It is clear and not as long but it sure works good.
