Okay. Just got a 6" suspension and 35" tires on my 84 f150 300 i6, 4x4. Ive been thinkin hard about swapping my rearend out for a 9". And changing gears up front to match. I have 3.08 LSD and that ain't gonna cut it. I looked at the chart, and i defently have to have a LSD, so that being said. What are the advantages and disadvantages to the different LSD 9". Such as the 3.75 or the 4.10: and the different pay loads....?
I'm no specialist regarding 4X4s, but I would think you might have a problem getting an exact match regarding ratios when comparing what I believe is an 8.8" front differential to your proposed 9" replacement rear differential.
Money wise, it would be much less expensive to use stock sized tires, but if you MUST use larger tires [your choice, of course ], I believe you would be better off changing gears at both ends and staying with the 8.8" [stock].
Keep in mind, your speedometer is going to be affected as well as acceleration, handling and braking and most likely the gas mileage will suffer.
Yea I realize the speed is going to change. Haha. I put on a 6" lift and 35's so the speed is Going to dramatically go down with 3.08 (stock) gears. I'll probably stick with 8.8 but I would then change the gears out. Do you know the plus's and minus's to the 4.10 LSD and the 3.75 LSD. I'd like to get a lot of torque in the low range rpm's. I want my granny low to have great power.
And I've seen they have different 4.10 's and the only difference is the towing capacity.
