What ring gear size do I have?

So I was about to start replacing my rear-end bearings in my 1995 Ford Aerostar XLT (4.0L V6) with electronic AWD. However, I have come to a bit of conflicting information. I was using this walkthrough here.

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...intenance.html

The axle code in the door jam says "24". According to the graph in the link, I should have a 7.5" gear ring with a 3.73 gear ratio. However when I went to get the parts, all parts store (Autozone, Advanced Auto Parts and Pepboys) state that they only sell the wheel bearings for 8.8" ring gear for 4WD models. This fact is consistent online as well. RockAuto, partsgeek and Autopartwarehose.com all list my van as having a 8.8" ring gear. I can not find any that sells a 7.5" for the 4WD models online either. So I thought for sure that I had the 8.8" ring gear. However, I slid under the back and sure enough I have a 373 75 stamped on the rear differential. So I'm a bit confused as to what bearings I need to use and where to get it.

Also, I went to the local Ford Dealership and the said they can not get parts for my van. Which is odd considering I can still get parts for my 1992 Plymouth Laser.

Not to doubt your knowledge, I just want to confirm as once again Autozone has confilcting information.

Autozone lists the Timken 5707 part as the FRONT bearings for this vehicle.
Timken/Axle Shaft Bearing - Front (5707) | 1995 Ford Aerostar 4WD 6 Cylinders X 4.0L EFI | AutoZone.com

They have the TRP1559TV listed as the 8.8" bearing; and
they have the TRP1563TAV listed as the 7.5" bearing for the rears.

Also, excuse my noob question but what am I looking for on the race? I assume the race is the portion of the shaft that contacts the axle shaft bearing.....

You are correct; the inner race is just a specially polished part of the axle shaft. When you pull the shaft out, look at the area where the bearing rides, and check its condition. If it shows wear, but no gouge, you can get offset bearings that will ride on a different part of the bearing surface of the shaft.

Hmmm. 10/95 build date. Isn't that a '96 model?

That's exactly why I don't go to Autozone for any parts. They never have in what I want, always have to order, then they order the wrong parts and want to charge me restocking.

They couldn't find a hole in the ground with their rear end and head stuck in it.

your rear end tag says 7.5 diff and your build sticker has the 7.5" code, believe Ford, they made the damn thing.

Timken knows far more about bearing and correct applications than a corporation ran and staffed by idiots.

the reason Ford used the 7.5 diff in the AWD 4.0l was the fact that the 7.5 spec'd torque load is more than the max. 70% engine output load it carries, remember the the transfer case does a continuous 70/30 power spit rear/front. Ford also had tons of the things built and rusting away for the Aero. Not cost effective planning, no wonder the family is out of the corporation and it's in reality owned by private capital preferred stockholders and their corporate loans of $45 billion that Ford will never pay off.
