Sorry to revitalize an old thread but I'm wondering if someone out there can help me find a suitable replacement for Motor Craft FL500S filters in an off brand?
There should be a book at any auto parts store that cross references, but I STRONGLY suggest using the motorcraft filter. It is better than fram, stp, and most any other parts store brand and has a patented anti drain back valve. Not just that, they are cheap.
1) I'm sold on the MC anti-drain back feature. Being an engineer myself, I can easily see the benefits. What's the best on-line retailer for picking one up?
2) I have no desire to change my own oil (did it myself for years but would rather pay someone to do it for me now) so I'm wondering if any 10-min oil change place would change the oil using a MC filter I purchased myself from a different store? Anyone ever done this?
This may sound sketchy but wal Mart will use anything that is on their shelves for your oil change. You need to keep on top of them though, after all it is Walmart. IIRC, the fl500s is the same filter for the 3.0 escape and I buy them at wal Mart
Rock Auto has multiple options listed. The filter doesn't appear unique to the Ecoboost. It looks like the same filter fits a lot other Fords, as well as GM and Dodge/Ram products.
yep, I ordered 6 from Rock Auto a few months ago- a Motorcraft

why? Motorcraft are made FOR Fords. and are by far the best oil filter for Fords.
WhiteBeast - just got back from Wally World and they DO NOT carry MC FL500s oil filters. They checked their computer and I checked www.walmart.com and they just don't carry that filter. They do carry MCFL400s though. Go figure. So, I'm back to square one and now have 1 of 2 choices to make:
1) change the oil myself (no desire)
2) suffer thru an hour long oil change at my local Ford stealership
Both choices completely suck! ARGH!!!
Hey Ford, if you're reading this forum, please release this oil filter to the general public!!! Thank you.
If you are interested PEP BOYS carries Royal Purple oile filters for the Ecoboost. Part #20-500. They are a bit expensive about $12.00 to $15.00, but they work well and are usually in stock. I've never had an issue with them. My F250 has almost 200,00 miles on it without issues.
This is just an alternative if you can't find a Motorcraft that fits.
Has anyone tried cross-referencing a WIX filter? Believe this is the correct one..WIX filters are really good filters..SOmeone would have to contact WIX and find out...
