Starter bad? Not catching?

I have an 85 Bronco XLT. It has a 306 in it and since the day i got it i have had trouble with it. right now i am trying to sell it and i just cant figure out how to fix this problem: when i go to start it it makes this grinding noise it does it every time and it wont start. when i had this problem befor i bought a new starter and it worked for a while but then did the same thing. im not sure but i think it is not catching the fly wheel. if so how do i fix it? do you have any tips?

The bendix gear on the starter can be broken. Also the flywheel will have at least two worn spots on it if it's bad. Using a socket and pull handle on the front pulley large bolt turn the engine by hand about a quarter turn , then remove your socket and pull handle and try to start it again. If it starts you probably need a flywheel. If it fails to start put a new bendix gear on your starter or install a new good quality starter. Try to stay away from discount house $29.95 lifetime guarantee starters.

what kinda tranny do you have, if its a manuel then you can pull the fly wheel and just replace the teeth ring. Ive done that its easy and cheaper then buying a new flywheel. just get the flywheel hot around the ring and will expand and fall off, then get the new ring gear and heat it up so it will fit on the fly wheel , let it cool down and your ready to go.
