Question 302 rebuild

New here, I have a possiblity of getting a 302 from a 1990 F150 from a friend for a great deal, all electronics and EFI included. He says the rings are shot so I figure at least a mild rebuild would be in order. That having been said this wouldn't be going back in an F150....don't flame me, it'd be a replacement for my 2.5L 4 banger in my Jeep.

Basically I'd like the engine to produce nice torque and mostly utilize the lower and mid rpms, and definately maintain reliability.

Any suggestions on what parts to lookat and any tips? Also, I'd like to do this on a fairly low budget, but depending on the price I can pull this from him I might not have to be too consciencious about that.

in 1990 the 302 was a speed density motor so to utilize mods you will have to get a custom burned chip or convert to mass air flow.

Since your looking for low rpm your engine won't be to radical so keep the speed density. I put a comp cam 31-255-5 for the speed density, world heads and r/rockers. great power through rpm. THis will cost about 1200. Or you can keep the stock heads and get r/ pedastol rockers and spend about 400. Either way power cost money.
