94 bronco, wont start...just goes clank when you try to turn it over. then wont do anything no lights no nothing no clank even. if you disconnect battery and reconnect it will show battery juice and lights/radio work but goes clank again. after a few times of this it turned over. did it with two different batteries too so its not the battery. Im thinking starter..any thoughts??? just want to be sure before i spend 120$ on starter. thanks
I'm wondering if you've got a bad cable or bad connection. With a good battery charged up, even if the starter motor is stalled and draws real high current, if you turn the key back to RUN, the starter relay on the fender will drop out, opening the circuit to the starter. So lights should go back on if they dimmed out when cranking.

Agreed. Check cable connections at the start solenoid on the inner fender, at the starter itself and at the negative connection to the frame and block.
This is fairly common, its usually the battery terminals and/or wires. They rot internally. I'd pick up a set of new terminals ($6) and see if that fixes it before going further.
if the drive shafts match physically then yes it will work. the key is making sure your pulling from another bronco and that the 89 runs the same tranny as you have. this will ensure proper length.
U-joints are not very difficult to replace. Although, the double-carbon assembly at the front of the rear shaft can be a PITA without at least a vice to hold things while you work.
