I just bought and installed a new fuel pump on my 1987 f-150 305 5.0 and still no fuel is reaching the engine.
The truck was cranking just fine then I let it sit for a year and now it doesn't crank?
Welcome. Do you know if your pump is running? or even getting power? Do you hear it running, wont be very loud but still make noise, also your rig has multiple pumps, one in each tank (low pressure) and a frame rail mounted one (high pressure). You can ground I believe its pin 6 of the diagnostic harness to manually trigger the pump relay and power all the pumps, and see if you get and fuel then. I'm sure a more senior member will chime in shortly with a diagram of the connector and which pin to ground. Do you have multiple tanks, if so does it get fuel from either one? Which of the 3 pumps did you replace?
Thanks Cletus Snow, I didn't see but one big long fuel tank up under and the fuel pump was connected on top which ran inside the tank. I bought a cheaper fuel pump and filter from auto zone and rebuilt it around the old connectors. Should I do a do a diagnostic with an electric light to see if anythings burned or corroded?
First test to see if you're getting electricity to the pump, at the tank connector, if you are, then pull your pump out and make sure you spliced the connections properly, if its not right, make it right. What led you to believe it was the fuel pump, or even this pump? If you have two fuel fillers, you have 2 tanks, the long drivers side mounted one and one between the frame rails, behind the rear axle, and above the spare tire, just would hate for the switch to be set to draw off the rear tank if you're working with the front...
An 87 has 3 pumps, one in each tank (low pressure), sometimes called a lift pump, and then another mounted on the frame rail around the fuel filter, (high pressure). Why do you ask? Whats going on?
