Question Steering wheels?

I was messing around at the junkyard yesterday and saw some clean steering wheels but they were off a Lincoln town car and a few thunderbirds. They were all around my year 95 anyone see if these will fit our generation truck? My steering wheel is pretty thrashed.

Since you can actually replace the steering shaft with one from a Town Car i would venture guessing and would say yes.

Find a site that sells aftermarket steering wheels and see if they give a size for the shaft...

Other than that I would say if you can get one cheap enough to not matter if it don't fit and try it.

By using the steering column from a car...He's gonna save some $$$..

By using the truck column, Grant Wheels, wants $90 for the Adapter kit....

By using the car column, Grant wheels, wants $27 for the Adapter Kit...

Only difference, is the model of the truck (Whether it has an airbag or not)....The columns, and spline shafts, etc are the SAME DAMNED THING...

In otherwords...Swap to a car column, and get your choice of wheel, for a TON less....

https://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1...l#post11643902

^That, has a TON of info on the differences between truck/car columns, and the issues between them (Very few)...

Too much for me to think and re-write tonight...

No worries sidewinder, yeah I know how much of a ripoff grant is. Also know about how crown vic steering columns are essentially the same as what is in our trucks. I honestly didnt think about just taking the whole damn column...but it would be nice to have a replacement, things are already messed up on the trucks (from atleast half a million miles of use). As usual I get turned in the right direction.

[QUOTE=SideWinder4.9l;11643902]Then you'll need to use the Ignition Switch box from your OEM column....

Because 1992-1993 trucks use the version with the small shroud around the hold down bolt...

1994+ trucks use the version with the larger shroud around the hold down bolt...

If you pull both and compare notes, you'll see it right off, and understand me...

So...? I think I am in the clear then. Right Sidewinder?

I personally have no experience with the Lincoln, etc cars from 1991+...

But if you grab a column from a 1991 Crown Vic, or Mercury, you're gonna need the other part of the Ignition Switch...The Male end...From the car..

Otherwise, you can buy that particular part, for around $15-20....And match it, and not have to cut/clip/afroengineer wires...

Go with whatever suits you...But from 1992-1993, the F-Series trucks use the Car style Switches...

1994+ F-Series Trucks, use the other size, etc box...Hold down screw shrouds are different..

HOWEVER

I cannot comment on the F-250,350 trucks from 1994+....

Seems that the airbag has a lot to do with that switch...

Well, pull the hold down bolt out of your switch on your truck (30 second process) and look at it..

Then do the same to the cars...If they're the same, yer in business...Literally plug-n-play...5 bolts, swap the lower brace, and swap keyswitches over and call it a day....A 30 minute project...Literally..

otherwise, simply cut the wiring harness off the cart also (So it all fits, etc) and then get the wiring color codes...

I have a ton of info for the truck's wiring I could link you to, out of my own personal archives....lol

Just go, and take a look (And pics, to better allow us to help ya) and we can go from there...

Right in the center of the switch...

And by Ignition Switch, I am NOT talking about the Lock Cylinder that the key goes into...

The actual Ignition Switch, is on the left side of the column, and can be seen from underneath......It's a lil white box, about 3" x 5" in size...

I can't view that link....I don't have an account...

but if you simply copy the pic, and paste it here...That works perfectly..

Anything already uploaded to the 'net...Can be copy/pasted here and posted...

Btw, in that diagram, you can see the shroud I mentioned, around the hold down bolt (#2 figure)
