OK, this may sound like a stupid question but on my 88 XLT my turn signals light up and blink but once my turn is complete they do not click off on their own. No problem I manually turn them off only there are times when I forget and am driving for blocks before I realize they are still on. What part needs to be replaced or fixed to solve my problem? As you can see from my previous posts that I am waiting for payday to do a bunch of little things to get the beast running right again and I just want to be prepared for what it's going to cost and how much time it will take. Thanks a bunch guys, this site has helped alot.
$60 part with cruise wires. has all the wires for blinker, hazzard, horn, cruise etc.... If you don't have cruise control it may be less.
You have to pull the steering wheel, take out a few screws... 4 I think, unhook the wire connectors from below (it's left and above the brake pedal) and thread out the wires through the steering column. If you don't have tilt I think you can just pull it out, if you do(like me), you have to undo all the wires from the connector. Then, when you put the new one back in, you have to unhook all the wires from the connector, thread it back through the steering column, and then recconnect all the wires while on your back with your head against the gas.... That was a pain. But again, if you don't have tilt I think you don't have to unhook the wires.
Chilton and Haynes have a step through, and I think autozone has it online too..
You can replace the cam much more cheaply, but it's a POS reproduction part and it's a HUGE pain to adjust. It's MotorMite HELP! PN 49301, but I recommend ANYTHING else. I got one from a junkyard column that someone else had trashed. Miraculously, the cam was intact, so I soldered it into my harness. You can see the HELP! one in pic #76 in the GP Auto pics album in my signature link.
