I went with a Pioneer Double Din from Best Buy. Had to order offline and have it shipped to the store, but for only $160, it was a pretty good deal. It has bluetooth, USB, and aux inputs, as well as a mic that I mounted on my gauge pod. It works with all bluetooth devices, but is designed for iphone/ipod. I've been told I sound like i'm in a barrell by some people, others say it's really clear. Doesn't bother me either way because they sound fine lol...
The way the factory units hold in is to snap against the sides. That's the same method that the install kit uses. The one that I bought mounted to the radio, then snapped in to the grab the side just like the factory unit, there is just no release other than pulling the dash off and unscrewing the install kit. It had several positions that it would snap into so that you could recess the unit if you wanted, or flush mount it.
Really if you have a small dremel and can cut the lip out without needing the dash out, there is no need to remove it completely. The unit shown above was wide enough that I had to delete the two screws holding the dash in. Still snaps in tight and doesn't rattle though.
