I know that it is normal for there to be some air/agitation for a
short time after a tranny fluid change. but with 47,000 mi. and
15 thousand since the last change i am not sure it is normal.
My question to the panel is is it ok to have a large amount of
bubbles on the dipstick......it shifts runs fine.......thanks....Dave
nope no overhaul.....this is a screwy deal....the truck runs
great!!! it just bothers me a little....i have become alittle of
a tranny exspert, being a former dodge owner....i dont want to
get over excited about it but at the same time......know what
i mean. i am thinking about taking her up to the mechanic
tomorrow and seeing what he says....in any event i thought
i would ask the forum...thanks ..................Dave
You might have a loose tranny filter sucking air. Sometimes when we change the filter we don't seat it properly or sometimes we might damage the little O ring that some of them have.
Hard to say how much bubbles is too much. If the dip stick is foamy all the way up there is probably a problem, low fluid, air in pickup, or the tranny is slipping too much.
I would check the condition of the fluid. Red is best pink is questionable, brown or black is bad. Also smell the fluid, should have a nice chemically smell. Burned smell is bad.
Be sure to follow the manufactuers instructions when checking the fluid level. Most trannies are very picky about following procedure.
If you are almost to a fluid change anyway or you are worried, go ahead and change the fluid and check for leaks and check the valve body to makes sure none of the fasteners are loose(causes air leaks). Also check the pan for metal and excess clutch material(pepper flakes). Inspect the O ringand make sure the filter seats properly. Most kind of snap into place when installed properly.
sorry bout the overfull/overhaul miss read. no its right on the
numbers. Thanks jarvis/jim....i think i'll just go ahead and change
the fluid/filter. it looks and smells ok.....but i think your
right something has to be loose. i'll let ya know what i come up with....thanks again!! Dave
