While driving around on bumpy roads in the woods this weekend, I noticed a rattling sound coming from front of my truck ('95 F150 4X4). As soon as I would touch the brake pedal, the noise would stop. I have seen people talking about some kind of retaining clip on the brake pads causing noise problems. I watched as the pads were installed just a couple hundred miles ago, and it looked as if there were clips that held the pads in the calipers. Are these the clips people are talking about, or would they not be in plain sight from the outside of the wheel well?
I guess what I'm asking is this an urgent issue that I need to get looked at right away, or is it just an annoying noise? The brakes seem to be working just fine.
There is some jell that can be put on the back of the pads to reduce noise.
Napa had it for about $5 a bottle.
It dries to about a silicone caulk hardness.
I believe it is called Disk brake quiet.
Good luck,
Gene
Those clips are called anti rattle clips. You can buy replacement clips cheap.Make sure they are installe right. The pad dressing is supposed to help stop squeaking noise when you brake.I've found if you use oem or good napa pads and turn the rotors you won't have squeaking problems.
