I really was surprised yesterday at the bed length I saw on a 2009 super cab. I actually saw a short- yes, the one that is even shorter than my 6 1/2 footer. I had been under the thoughts that they did not make a super cab with that shortest bed. This was a super cab NOT a crew cab. Anybody's thoughts?
Actually, finding a 2010 FX4 SuperCrew Cab, with a 6.5' bed, was difficult in July 2010. I've seen a number of the shortbed versions here in FL.
To me, those look very odd. Unbalanced. More cab than bed.
The 6.5' bed is ideal to me. I can still park my truck "most" places, and can still haul full sheets of plywood with the tailgate down, without hanging out the back.
My cousin had an 2004 FX4 super cab with the 5 1/2 foot bed. His brother has it now I never did get the chance to ask him why he wanted the short bed. I often wonder if he didn't notice until after he bought it. I definately prefer the look of the super cab with the 6 1/2 foot bed.

I think another part of this for me was I had owned a truck with a short bed. I had a 2000 Nissan Frontier. Good vehicle, but small capacity. I made it work with some effort.
So I definitely wanted a longer bed on my current truck. An 8' bed wasn't an option, and would certainly make the SuperCrew Cab too long to park most places. As it is, I have to back into the parking spots where I work.
I agree with the above. Parking a Super Cab is bad enough with a 6.5 bed; an 8' bed causes some issues. That said, the 8' of cargo space is really a good thing for hauling ply boards, motor cycles and lots more. Comes down to what works best for the individual.

The bed on the Nissan crew cabs is almost as useless as the joke tacked on the back of the Explorer Sport Trac. The axle is so far forward, any significant weight in the bed will lever weight off the front of the vehicle, resulting in extremely poor steering control.
