I am planning on eventually replaceing my idle air control and throttle position sensor as part of a preventative maintenance obsession. My truck (1996, 302 ci model) does exhibit some of the classic F-150 erratic idling -- still only subtle, though but this might directly help.
Looking at the IAC, it seems fairly starightforward.
Looking at the TPS (I am pretty sure I am looking at the correct part!), it seems more tricky. My Chilton book does have a guide -- hopefully complete!
I plan on using Motorcraft parts. Your thoughts on how involved this is and any tips is appreciated.
Take the throttle body off and clean out the small ports the IAC uses to bypass air around the throttle. At least spray some carb cleaner and blow it out with air if you don't remove it.Not sure about the 96 but on EECIV trucks you need to set the TPS voltage to .96 volts at idle.
