I found after I installed granite tile in our kitchen the other year that scrap pieces make excellent coasters. If your into woodworking or metalworking, they'd also make nice tabletops for end tables and the like.

That is what I was thinking, or a lamp table or something...
Also a nice hard surface for checking/lapping things on.
Not as flat as a real surface plate, but more than flat enough for a carb flange or using wet with a piece of carbide sandpaper to sharpen chisels and plane blades.
whew. nice find. wish i had found those. Someday i hope to come across some like that to make the following: nice chess/checkers table top of alternating stone colors with a slide out drawer base that holds the playing pieces........then i'd use some to make some nice trophy bases........then for some nice heavy bases for some wood working clock pieces......man, the ideas are limitless. Someone like me that has plans for scrap like that would be ecstatic to get their hands on that.
So what kind of auction would that come from? I would like to see if there might be some in my area.
I just saw a dog watering/eating station that resembled a cabinet. Why not incorporate something like that and add granite top. $100 bucks or so Id guess
