Hi, I just got my 34 ford pickup with a C90E and C4. It is going to be a frame off restoration. I pulled the engine and tranny and inspected them. Bummer. The engine looks like it was left in the rain uncovered. Two cylinders and pistons are fused together from corrosion. The others look good. So it will be bored if the block is good.
If the block is not good, what makes it a C90E. What I mean is If I need to get another block and can find a good later one like the mid 80's kind is the only difference the slightly lower deck height? If that is true, then I could put the heads, Aluminum Manifold and carb, cam etc. on that block and still have the potential power of the original engine. Or have I missed something like I usually do.
Thanks, Al K
The "C9OE" is the date code for your engine block. All it says is when it was built. (1969) Any block from later years would work the same. Like you mentioned there are some year heads that are better than others, but if you're just needing a new block any of em will do.
Good luck on your project and keep us posted on your progress.
Thanks Ron, I kind of figured that. But what about the deck height? I read somewhere that the early blocks had a deck height about .200 inches shorter than later blocks. Since this would decrease compression ratio in the later blocks, can they be decked to get back to the original CR? Al K
I think that you are correct my fellow Ford follower. The C9OE block has a lower deck height. I can't remember exactly what the height is. However, the pre-74 blocks are the same. That is to say that the 74 block is taller.
