97' Transmission

This may be a bone-head question but I need to find out! I have a 97 7.3 litre diesel 4x4 and the e40d is shot (blew my overdirve gear out and the metal is all in my trainny). I have a buddy with a 96' 5.8 litre 2 x4 e40d transmission and he is willing to give it to me. Is this transimssion compatible with my big block 4 x 4? Just need to know before I start doing all the work. Any info would be great.

It won't bolt up to the diesel since it has the smallblock pattern.

Thanks, I was also told the shaft is longer for the four wheel drive which would cost just as much as a rebuilt transmission had it worked. As always I appreciate the info!

No problem! Yes the output shaft has a different length on the 4WD than the 2WD and you have to completely gut the transmission to change out the output shaft.
