Question looking for help with questions

hello,
i posted on the transmission forum. but figured id try here i have a 1984 ford f250 4x4 and the throwout bearing went in the clutch, so i recently removed the tranny and transfer case. but id like to replace the tranny insulator mounts but i cant find them and this has the 4x4 transfer case so its different then the usual mounts that everyone sees on auto sites.. and also i read how to remove the shifter for the tranny not concerned about the 4x4 shifter and i believe i have the t-18 tranny and in the haynes book it explains it but i cant figure out how to remove the shifter, there are to little pins on the sides do i remove it from those or remove the bolts and lift the whole linkage out? and one last thing...i ordered a whole clutch kit 10'' that comes with a Clutch disc assembly, pressure plate cover assembly, release bearing, alignment tool, grease pack, installation guide....but i noticed in the haynes book the clutch release fork looks like it hits a "clutch hub and release bearing assembly" in the book and on my tranny there was a plastic piece with the bearing will the new bearing come with this plastic piece? maybe someone has purchased a kit before...any ideas? and any ideas where i can get some supports is great.. thanks for reading and any help you can give

I'm sorry. I thought I was going to be able to help you due to my recent experience with clutches. But, I got lost in your post and couldn't get my head around it.

I really would like to help, but for me to help you then you are going to have to help me understand what you want. The problem is I can't easily read what you wrote. I don't see the start of sentences because there are no caps for the first letter. And, what should be sentences just run on and on with no end/period.

So, could you try again? Re-write what you wrote as if this is a letter, not texting. Set your thoughts out logically and clearly, and put them in sentences. Collect similar thoughts into paragraphs, with white space between them.

If my request seems unreasonable then good luck, because I know many on here will stop reading part way into such posts and never come back. Me, I'm a glutton for punishment and like to help people, so please help me help you.

Gary is very knowledgable and willing to share his experience, if you work with him [and most other forum members]. Simple put, please try to reword your post remembering that many members are somewhat "old school" when it comes to things such as punctution, grammer and manners.

I reposted your original post with spaces between what seemed to be your major points, but did not change any wording.

Try again and then you most certainly will get the help you want!

Question

Hello, I ordered a new clutch kit for my 1984 f250 4x4 4.9. On the old shaft of the transmission the clutch throw out bearing let go, and I have a new kit to replace it. My question is, the set I ordered doesn't have a plastic hub assembly like they show in the repair manual, and is somewhat melted on the shaft. Instead its just a basic bearing with a flange area where the clutch fork slides into it. Is this correct? I've never done a clutch after its been broken. So I'm not sure how everything goes. If you have a detail picture that will help. I just want to make sure the metal release bearing I got is replacing what seemed to have a plastic piece behind the old bearing. I got the clutch set at autozone.com.
Also in the process of removing my transmission I notices the rubber supports are old and worn. Any idea where I can order some. this truck has the 4x4 transfer case so it's not the usual mounts that other FTE have suggested.

Eric,

Thank you for the punctuation & capitalization.

Could you also please double-space between paragraphs? Maybe even between lines? Walls of text are really hard to read and white space between lines is really lots easier.

Anyhow....

This is what the parts catalog says for your clutch, does this help?

I don't recall any plastic parts in any clutch I've seen but I've never been under a 6-banger.

About your rubber mount things - are you talking about 6E039 and/or 00157 in this drawing? If so, which one(s)? Does this drawing match what you have?

My 351M has plastic in several places on the throw out bearing, but the original ones didn't. I suspect that plastic is much more durable now than it was then, so they can do that. But, they still sell the ones w/o plastic, and both work well. What you have should be fine.

And, thanks for rewriting it. I can understand it, easily, although more white space like Chris suggested would be nice.

The part that I was curious about was the 7548 on the clutch. It looks like it has

a plastic plate the clutch fork slides onto. In the Haynes they call it a clutch

release bearing hub assembly. In my kit its a bearing that has a flange where

the clutch fork slides into and there's no plastic at all or square looking hub like

in the picture. I just want to make sure this is correct before I install

everything.

And ford the transmission supports its both part numbers 6e039 and 00157. Id

like to replace them both but can't seem to find them anywhere.. Autozone ,

oreily , napa , advanced autoparts, pep boys, no one carries them. Even my local

ford dealer doesn't have them.

What Haynes book and what page & drawing #? I have a couple of the books so might be able to figure out what you are talking about. Or, take a picture and post it?

I really don't understand what you are saying here. But, I suspect you are referring to the drawing Chris sent. If you can confirm which #'s you are looking for I think Chris can point you to a source.

Right, he's looking for some rubber insulators. I'll try to look later today or tonight.

It's the 7548 on the clutch Diagram. I only have a bearing nothing that shows the fork skidding into the hub and under those tabs.

8-3 of the ford Haynes book. Under the clutch driveline section

If you google 7548 ford clutch release bearing under images it will
Show you some with a plastic backing and some that are all metal... I have the all metal one and the plastic is what I had originally and what it looks like in Haynes book. Will the metal one I have work?

I think I asked what Haynes book you have as well as the page #. Apparently you have the Ford Pickups & Bronco one? I have several, but that's the only one that has a diagram on page 8-3 that applies, so I'll assume that is the one. And, it fits perfectly with the one Chris posted, although it shows the "Throwout bearing lever" already under the spring tabs on the "Clutch release bearing".

So, assuming that is your diagram as well, I don't understand "I only have a bearing nothing that shows the fork skidding into the hub and under those tabs." In Chris' drawing the item #7548 is the same as the Haynes clutch release bearing. What do you mean by "hub"?

Are you saying that your throwout bearing doesn't have the tabs?

I didn't find what you found when I searched. But, you can sure make things a lot easier if you will give us the link of the page you want us to look at. By telling us to google something you are making it much more difficult for us to help you, and many won't do it. Plus, you are adding in a huge probability that we will be looking at a different page than you will. So, if you want us to look at the same thing copy the URL, click the blue globe/link icon, and paste the URL into the popup window. Then we'll see what you are seeing.

So, since I'm not looking at that page I can't answer the question of whether or not what is there, which you say is what you have, will work.

Hey, Eric,

Do me another favor, go HERE and finish filling out your profile (scroll down to the third pane), would ya? This will let us see where you're at when you post.

When I look up parts for people, I'll try and list sources that are close to where they live.

OK, I made a mistake here, discovered it when I went looking closer....

Both of those rubber insulators are Basic Part Number 6E039, you can see the designation for the lower insulator above and to the left of the "00157" lettering.

Turns out 00157 is a body bolt, the thing with the large washer-like thing to hold the insulator.

OK, good news, bad news....

Good news: There are lots of upper bushings around.

Bad news: They're likely gonna be pretty dang pricey.

More bad news: There are absolutely zero -nada- of the lower bushings available.

So, with that....

E1TZ-6E039-A INSULATOR ASSY. (REAR SUPPORT) - Upper
Fits 1980/89 F150/350 with 4WD and manual transmission

Bowman Sales And Service Bowman, ND 58623 Tel. 701.523.3257 has 2

Imperial Country Ford, Inc. Imperial, NE 69033 Tel. (800) 255-9762 has 2

Collectors Auto Supply OROVILLE, WA 98844 Tel. 800-414-4462 has 230

Bob Allen Ford Expensive, use as a last resort Overland Park, KS 66212 Tel. (800) 676-0675 has 10

E1TZ-6E039-B INSULATOR ASSY. (REAR SUPPORT) - Lower
No NOS parts vendors or Ford dealers have any

D4TZ-1000157-C (Looked it up, anyway, even though you probably don't need it) RETAINER (BODY BOLT ABSORBER LOWER) - Also going to be pretty dang pricey
Fits 1980/89 F140/350 & Bronco, 1988/89 F(SuperDuty)

Minuteman Truck Sales, Inc. Walpole, MA 02081 Tel. 508-668-3112 has 2

Maplecrest Lincoln Mercury VAUXHALL, NJ 07088 Tel. 908-964-0544 has 4

My catalog goes only until 1989, these parts were probably used in later years, too, but I don't know that for a fact.

About your throwout bearing with the 7548 plastic backing plate thing, I don't know.... I replaced my clutch several years ago and I seem to recall there being some way (clippy things) for the fork to remain lined up with the bearing but don't recall any details, sorry.

My 1980/96 Haynes pickup/Bronco book must have been published at a different time than yours, it doesn't show any pictures like you describe.

this link here is what i believe i originally had...and what it looks like in the ford bronco book...

the one i got in my kit looks like this....and where the front part of it lines up with the pressure plate.. the fork will slide into the middle area of it...but i just notice it has a small bump on it.. almost to keep it from rotating out of the fork...not sure if that bump is suppose to face the fork or face the outside towards the bell .

I can't tell for sure, but the one you say you have looks to be the right one. My NP435's release arm has the springs that the bearing clips under. But my ZF5's release arm doesn't have that and the bearing slides on like is shown. I think you have the right one.

And, sorry for the slow response. Drove to Nashville today. Tomorrow DC.
