Just curious if anyone can get more than 8-10 years out of the radiator before it needs to be replaced. I've owned 3 late model vehicles and the most life I've gotten out of a radiator has been 10 years. The Escort and Aerostar radiators went 8 years and the Ranger radiator made it 10 years. The radiator in my '71 Maverick went 18 years before I replaced it with one that had more cooling capacity, not because it leaked. These new aluminum radiators with plastic end caps don't seem to hold up very well. So much for quality.

That mystery Aerostar radiator of mine - the one that heals itself- is still going after 12 years but I expect this summer will be the end of it. Our Escort GT is the same age and we have had no problems with that one to date. The 95 Probe GT is fine and the 99 Expedition darn well better not have any problems.

I agree that about ten years is the average life for an aluminum
and plastic radiator. I got 11 years out of my Aerostar radiator.
In my mind the newer ones just don't last because I have 1987
Grand Wagoneer, 1980 Scout II and a 1953 Chrysler with their
original radiators.
Good Luck.
