2.9l problem with acceleration
Ive just got a 89 2.9L EFI 4x4 and it has trouble when I try to accelerate I have to slowly push the pedal down or it coughs or hesitates like its flooded or fuel starved. I replaced the fuel filter today but stil had this problem. It happens at about 2500-3000 rpm and once thr rpms raise above 3000 it smooths out it also is fine when at idle. it doesnt matterif the engine is cold or warmed up altough it seems worse if the trucks is cold.
what should i check next dirty injectors or fuel pump? or something else?
thanks
A friend checked the prussure at the fuel rail and it was low at 20 psi at idle the regulator appeared the to be working so smart money was on the fuel pump
We replaced the fuel pump and now it runs great.
A tip for Fuel pump replacement on rangers with the tank under the bed. Use a Torx T-55 to loose the three passenger side bed bolts and remove the drivers side bolts (I spray them wuth WD-40 the nite before) then lift the drivers side of the bed. This allows the top of the gas tank to be accessed with easy. Greatly reducing the time for this job vs dropping the tank.
thanks
david
