Gettin ready to pick up a 74 F250 Highboy. Its the hd, 8 lug of course. Just shopping for wheels and tires, cuz i wanna get rid of the 16.5's that are on it. Anybody have a good site to check out?
I just put 16" wheels and tires on a '78 F250 (tonight!). The first choice was reman stock wheels from JCW. I picked the wider of their two offerings... which turned out to be Budd style dual wheels. Returned. I believe they do have a 16"x6" but that wasn't wide enough for my application.
I wound up getting US Wheel chrome plated steel "Rock Crusher" wheels from Summit in 7" width for 245 tires. They are nice looking for my taste and rated for 3000# each. Quite a few of the aftermarket 16" wheels are rated 2000# which is a little low for rears on a 3/4 ton. There are lots of other choices in steel and aluminum. I just prefer steel. The other spot I found some decent options was Discount Tire. Both will mount and balance if you get the tires there.
Of course the JY is always an option. Wider widths may be hard to find and it depends on how much time you want to spend cleaning/painting/restoring.
One thing to watch... I understand not all 16's will clear the brake calipers on the front. OE wheels do and the US 16x7 wheels do but some don't. It looked like US wheel made the wheel with the shallowest possible "cup" on the rim to provide max brake clearance.
