Question Tips for swapping a 6.0 oil cooler into 7.3 2002 Excursion

I'm the process of doing the swap. For the life of me, I don't see how you can access the screws at the bottom of the oil cooler. Any and all help will be very much appreciated.

The best way for me was to remove the bumper and grill. Then you have access to everything.

Are you talking oil cooler or trans cooler? Two different animals entirely.

There is a box tube beam right behind the black plastic apron below the bumper that has 3 bolts on each end. Take that off and there should be enough room to get to the trans cooler screws. I didn't have to remove the bumper when I installed ours. Removing the AC condenser upper brackets will allow tilting the condenser to gain some room from the top.

ford standard operating procedure = remove 3 things to access the thing you want to work on.

the real question is why can't the first thing you have to move be the part that needs fixin ? rarely works out that way

It usually IS the first part if it's a catastrophic failure

I looked through the bumper and saw the bolts. My auxiliary lights are blocking my view. Once I get some help I'll drop the bumper.

Drop the crash bar off the bottom of the frame up front (under the bumper). Once you do that, the cooler is super easy to get in and out. That is what Babich was telling you up above in post #4.

YOU DON'T NEED TO PULL THE BUMPER!

You can be really creative with universals, extensions and magnetic sockets... That did it for me. Took some patience.

I'll leave that to the OP. If he wants to add info to his title he can.
