Quick help please, turbo rebuild

I am in the process of rebuilding my turbo and I do not know where these two parts go that came with the rebuild kit. I do not have any instructions on how to do this, I have just been pulling it apart and replacing all the parts but these parts were not in the turbo when I pulled it apart.

They are both oil seals. The smaller one goes on the thrust bearing and the other goes on the shaft near the exhaust turbine. Go to the riffraff sight and you can download the instruction for the gtp38 rebuild.

Thanks guys, reps sent to both of you. I put those in the right place now but it is hard to spin the wheel now. Should it feel totally free spinning like it used to with the worn out bearings?

When you installed the turbine shaft did you feel the shaft seal lock in the turbine housing? Because there is a small groove that the seal goes in on the turbine housing. I had to clean the groove out (pick tool) on the turbine housing for the seal to seat in. Or I have heard of guys tapping the end of the shaft with a wood block or wood hammer handle to get it to fully seat.
Then install bearing, spacer and bearing (pre oiled) and the shaft should spin freely if so you are good.

What Ed said. Pull it back apart and inspect the whole thing. When it goes together it should spin very easy.

Make sure you clean everything out real well. I had to pull it back apart 3 times cause I missed small pieces of burnt oil other oozing goo that got past the seals. Definitely pre-oil it too and make sure nothing is rubbing. I got dirt between the compressor housing back plate and center cartridge at one point and it was enough to make the fins on the intake side rub the compressor housing! Oh, I used a little 1lb baby sized dead blow hammer to seat everything. Worked great.

Thank you very much guys. I got it all back together thanks to you. Before I put it back in the truck though I took a quick video of how well it spins now. Still stops pretty quick but MUCH better than before. Is this good?

That looks like it is fine. With a little oil on the bushings and the shaft, I would expect it to do that.

When you put the compressor housing back on check to see it hit the housing. Other than that it looks like its good to go, make sure you don't exceed 2000rpm for the first 50 miles or so give the new bearing some time to break in.

I never heard of the 2000 rpm deal but mine spin way earier then that and just kept spining till slow down. But I guess as you run it it mit free up as long as the shaft isn't bent.

Mine old one used to spin much easier also. I also just hooked up my boost gauge for the first time to the AIH port on the intake and did the AIH delete. I just finished and started the truck. Everything sounds fine but I do not hear the turbo spooling up or see any boost on the gauge. I have not driven it yet, just started it for about 2 min and put it up to about 1900 rpm. Should I be seeing boost on the gauge at idle or at 1900 rpm? Maybe I should let it warm up more first?
