Just picked up a '68 F100 Stepside, and was so excited when the seller told me it had been professionally refitted with a 460 I stopped asking questions. Once my brain re-engaged, the seller turned out to know little beyond that fact. He couldn't tell me where the motor came from. I have confirmed that it is a 460, but have no idea how to begin figuring out WHICH 460 so I can order parts, etc. Other info: has a C6 tranny, does not have P/S or P/B, has an Edelbrock carb but I haven't gotten into that yet.
Edit: Heads are marked D2VE-AA and intake is stamped D4VEC1B. I'm thinking they came out of different motors and someone was trying to build this truck up. Is there a good rule-of-thumb for ordering parts? I can pull each part I need and take it to the store to compare, but that will get old fast. I've had some luck looking up parts for both a '75 F250 and '80 Econoline, both with 460s. Are most of the parts between those years interchangeable? Not looking for definitive answer, but is stuff like oil/fuel filters, etc samey-same? I appreciate any and all help. Thanks in advance, Joe
