O.K. Here is the deal. I know you guys out there are the smartest in the world, so i am sure one of you can answer this. What happens if i change tire sizes on my 96 F-150 and don't change the constant conversion??? If it causes damage, can i reset the constant conversion myself??? I am doing this to get ready for winter(bah humbug) and i have different size winter tread.

Your speedometer will be off. If you have a stick, I think that's all. I've heard of people having problems with their shift points with an auto if they don't recalibrate.
Yes you can change the constant yourself. There is a tech article on this site telling how to do it.

Careful if you change the cal constant though, the trucks computer can only be flashed so many times, like 4-5 I think. If you follow the tech article it tells you this. So if the tire size change is small, just live with it, especially if you are going to be swapping back and forth. Myself, now that I have 35's on all the time I am gonna change it, then once more when I get 4.56 gears a year or so down the road.

You won't need to change it with a gear change as only a difference in tire size will affect the speed sensor reading.

The sensor reads of an excitor ring which is behind the ring gear on the carrier. The size of gears is neglected so you don't need to change it.

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 15-Oct-02 AT 02:51 PM (EST)]The thing about the speedo being rest so many time's before it need's replaced doesn't apply to you since your's is a 96' This is when they changed the CPU to OBD-II, your dealership could reset your odometer to the proper spec's with the larger tires for I think $90.

96s are limited to 6 re-calibrations according to the Ford shop manual. Recalibrating is a 10 minute job which you can do in your driveway, don't waste the money on a dealership.

I don't think it is. Mine is a 95 and you can only re-set it 6 times from the factory. The 96s I believe are the same way, I certainly would not have a dealership do this for 90 bucks, rip off.
