how much does my f250 8' styleside bed weigh? sold it and know have to pick it up, got a cherry picker but think 4 big guys ( i'm small) could get off the frame?

4 average size guys can remove a bed, done it myself. Careage bolts with nuts and lock washers, not self locking bolts.

How did you remove it yourself? I think i may pull my bed to paint the chassis. I don't really want to have to have people come over because I live out of town and its inconvenient for others to help with that.

It took 4 guys (we are all short) to pick up the full size bed on our 66. Take off the tail gate first...it seems to weigh more than the bed does.

Exclamation

I took off the rear bumper and brackets, and the rear tires, 33-12.50-16.5, put them on the ground behind bed, slid the bed back, and stood it up, and then upside down, to sandblast, by myself I was 24 then, now 52.

I removed my 8'bed similar to fordpt , I took off the rear wheels and lowered it almost to the ground then I jacked up the front end as high as I could with a floor jack then slied the bed back till I could get a floor jack under it then kept pushing it back till I could block it up with jack stands. I'm 65 and that was 2 years ago. Tom

I know most people won't have one of these, but if you do . . . I used a tractor with a front bucket and an engine hoist equalizer bar. I hooked the four chains on the equalizer bar through the four middle carriage bolts, with the equalizer giving me fore and aft balance, had a chain attached to the bar and the bucket, and let the tractor do the work. Don't forget there are six carriage bolts plus two conventional bolts at the back for a total of eight.

I used the "4 guys method" to get my old bed off but they weren't around when I put the new one on.
The "cherry picker" method worked quite well for short bed..... I had the bed standing on end on a couple of flat dollies so I could roll it around. I positioned it behind the truck and tilted it over onto a 5 gallon bucket so I could roll the cherry picker under it. I cut a 4x4 to fit under the bed rails and attached a short chain. Voila! All by myself....

Those Custom Cabs are a killer, especially when you add the extra 14 oz. of weight for those aluminum bedside mouldings....Hahaha!!

OK, I guess you really meant the flareside beds are lighter since they can be done less the rear fenders...altho, I'm not sure how much lighter they really are.

a couple of suggestions...as to bed removal...ESPECIALLY on those self locking nuts...use a nut splitter...a very sound investment...another thing...if they are OE bolts...and those werent it sounds like...have a helper hold the head flat against the bed floor while you reef on them...and a wire brushing and a shot of PB Blaster works well too...
I swapped beds out on mine years ago...over a Labor Day weekend as I recall...I did it myself...TONS of lumber laying around, a few well placed jacks lots of patience and viola...
