1987 Ranger

I've got a 2.9 2wd v6 that had been sitting for three years. i decided to hook up a battery to it and see if i could start it. as i hooked it up the starter solenoid started smoking so i unhooked the battery right away. i replaced the solenoid but nothing is working still.

When you say nothing, do you mean even the interior/dash? I would start checking fuses/fusible links, make sure the engine isn't seized.

the interior, the ignition, the lights, nothing works/turns on. i checked all the fuses and there good

I think for the time being I would disconnect the starter soleniod. Sounds like you might have a bad connection at the battery, maybe the cables or a cable is bad. hows the battery? I'ts very important to have clean terminals and clamped tight. Once you get that sorted I would actually check fuses with a test light as opposed to looking at them to see if power is even getting there.

Mine did the same thing, I put a new ground cable from the battery to frame and to the engine block and not one bit of trouble since-Hope this might help
