New 08 Owner

Hey y'all, I just wanted to say howdy. I typically hang out around the older 73-79 truck forum, but I bought an 08 F250 Fx4 this past weekend. I'll post some pictures after work, they've blocked photobucket on these computers. A little bit about it: It's somewhat high mileage, a little higher than what i really wanted, but i couldn't turn it down for the price I don't think. 160k miles. It's bone stock, looks like it's never been touched, which is definitely a good thing. I'm going to test out the pulling capabilities, I have a 77 F250 i'm going to pull about 100 miles.

So my question is, is there anything at 160k I need to be looking for, wary of, etc.? This is my 1st diesel, and from what i've read maintenance is key to success on these 6.4's, more so than most vehicles. Any help from you guys would be much appreciated!!

Jason

I'd go over all the fluids, expecially the coolant and the nitrates.

Register with your vin at the ford owners website so you can see all the manuals and diesel supplements.

big thing about an emissions diesel 08 and up imho is they do not like extended idling and stop and go traffic day in and day out.

In other words it loves alot of hwy and towing situations. That is where it runs the best.

Most I think will report fewer problems if they are working that motor.

At 160k, take a second look at the DPF. If it has not been cleaned or replaced, that may be on the "to do" list shortly. Other than what has already been posted, just go!

The dealer was pretty honest. (I think...) Said it had an antifreeze leak from the radiator hose, something about rubber o rings on one end, so I bought a new hose. That's really the only issue I've had and the dealer was honest about it.

Thinking about doing the DPF delete, but I haven't decided on it yet. I think if I needed a new one I'd just do the delete. What is protocol to check if the DPF needs attention?

You will start to get excessive regens (we believe) and or a message that the DPF needs serviced. No one really has ever gotten that far that is was full.

If you can't find a service record of something getting changed, look into it.

Its always nice when you get a "new to you" vehicle to just change every single fluid and filter, so you know its all done. IMHO.
