HI everyone, I just found this site while doing some research on my truck and well I am excited to have found this safe haven from all those mean people who cant respect that people drive a different brand than them. I have a 94 EB explorer with 4.0 in it. I am looking to get some more pickme up out of it at a reasonable price. Is it worth the money to put in a high performance intake? if so whats recommended around here. How about chips, are they worth the money on an explorer? or are there some cheap tune ups I can do. a few years ago the o2 sensors went out on it and we were driving through south dakota until we could find a dealer to take it to (6 mpg). after those were replaced, I bought it from my parents about a year and a half ago and ended up replacing the Catalytic converter because of the o2 sensors, is there something that should be maybe checked or replaced, 130k on the engine.
I too own a '94 w/130k+ miles I put a can of engine restore in after every oil change it seems to help. Also I cleaned the throttle body with a rag & carb cleaner this smooths out the transition from idle . plus a newset of spark plugs and some feul system cleaner ,really seemed to pep it up.
Explorers and Rangers are probably the *best* "bang for the buck" vehicles when it comes to naturally aspirated engines. Good engine sizes combined with relative light weight results with the chip giving a potent increase.....
