Ohhhhh ohhhhh ...... :(

The rubber boot that connects my AFE filter to the turbocharger, cracked.
I just noticed it now, so i don't know how long I've been driving around with zero air filtration
It was installed under 10,000 km ago, do you guys think I might be alright?

I havn't taken it apart yet.
It was running fine and still making great boost.

I don't know if that was an AFE boot, or the factory one re-used for the AFE intake.
This stuff all came from a package deal at spartan. It has been awesome, but now i have an issue i didn't plan on

Best thing you can do is pull it off and shine a light in the tubing and check the MAF. given that you have not had issues you maybe fine. The condition of the tubing should either provide some comfort or make you sick..one or the other.

I'm slightly confused by why you say to check the tubing, and I mean that in a way that suggests you are a lot smarter than myself.

The damaged part, is the rubber boot between the air intake, and the turbo, so there is nothing to see there except 1/2" of tubing and the turbo inlet and vanes....

anyone have any pics of a proper install so I can verify it was installed properly? I never installed it, but it don't matter i guess.

BTW, the air filter "minder" I think it's called, you know, the guage that tells if the filter is plugged, was in the red, and it never went in the red with the stock filter.

I remember the ol days of 6637 vs stock... on the 7.3....

So WTF, not so sound like a a$$wipe, but when i saw the stock filter vs the AFE aftermarket filter, i was wondering how the heck this thing could even compare, itls got to have like 1/10th the surface area....

What gives ?

I wouldnt worry to much, i have the volant set up and the first time I installed the fillter i didnt tighten it enough and it blow off by the turbo back pressure comming off boost, it was off for at least 4,500 miles under horidable dusty conditions at times and i havent had any issues. The said thing is i noticed a louder intake sound and never checked it out, after this event i check it now and than espically if the sound changes. I would change the oil if you havent

Yeah that is what I mean't all the way as far as you can go. If clean don't worry about it.

Well i'm hoping that because it's spring, and everything is damp, maybe I got lucky and there hasn't been enough dust floating around to damage it.

What you guys figure about the aftermarket filter?

Seems more restrictive, but I guess the stock intake would get sucked into the intake with high tunes?

I have been running the banks ram air for close to 60K. It does real good and has an excellent seal.

Parkland... what you can do to have some peace of mind is take an oil sample and send it to a reputible oil analisis lab. they can tell you how your motor is doing. good luck

This seems like a terrible design, an engine can move around quite a bit, and it looks like any motion at all would be hard on that boot.

Am i missing something?

Edit : this things only been on for a bit, like 1 oil change, how long did yours last?

Just a bit off topic, but this has to do with engine movement.

Yeah i'm pretty sure a diesel will move around quite a bit, this boot looks like it could cope with a maximum 1/2" movement without ripping.
