5.4l fuel problem.

99Super Duty 5.4l

Year old fuel filter.

Every morning when I get up go out start my truck, it starts fine. If I go to the beer store or something shut the truck off it will crank and crank then 20 turns later, start up acting like it will die for a second. Then run Fine. After comming out of the store, if I turn the key on, let the fuel pump run for approx. 10 seconds it will start fine just like in the mornings.

What is this problem? Is it the fuel pressure regulator? Is it a valve in the fuel pump?

Any DTC codes? Check engine light? Could be a weak fuel pump.

No codes. No lights. It's like it looses its prime after it gets warm.

Check your fuel pressure when it acts up.

I would guess it's your fuel pump. If you change it, make sure to change the relay as well.

Ok! Thanks for the info guys and good tip on the relay. If it comes down to changing it, will do. I'm Just trying to realise everything it could be. I would hate to have to change the pump then figure out it could be something else. The thing is after it gets started, there's no other sign of any problem.
