t-18 question
In lieu of previous threads stating an engine swap, I never thought of a tranny swap. I'm pretty set on my granny 4, as I love the reliability of it, and I love the nostalgic feel. As in my previous thread, i have come to a crossroads with engines. Now with this, I'll have the option to put a c-4 in, or another truck 3 speed. Whether or not I'm going with the 300/6 or not, should I just keep the ole' torquer tranny?

Keep the 4-speed, I hate that manual transmissions seems to be going extinct. That T18 is probably a lot lighter than any truck automatic, I also doubt you'll be able to find one that has torque converter lockup. The engine will spin a few hundred rpms higher on the highways due to the converters slip, that energy just gets turned into heat.
At the end of the day you loose the low gear, the low weight and rotating mass, the fuel economy, and the nostalgia.

hmm, someone who can put it in exact words! I think that is why i wanna keep it so bad..I LOVE manuals, and I dont see too many old t-18s anymore. My friend put a manual in his truck, but hes running a rebuilt Mustang 3 speed hurst in his...oy, don't get me started lol I do love the old tranny though, and its a tank of a thing, I think I am going to stick with it, just so I can say I have one!
