IS THERE ANY CHANCE OF CREATING A TRUE DUAL EXHAUST ON A 98'? I UNDERSTAND THAT SOMETIMES SOUND IS AN ISSUE, BUT MY THOUGHTS ARE THE LOUDER THE BETTER. MY GOAL WOULD BE TO INSTALL A SET OF HEADERS, DOWN TO A LENGTH OF PIPE, KEEP BOTH CATS, THEN DOWN TO A SECTION OF PIPE, THEN AN "H" PIPE TO EVEN EVERYTHING OUT, THEN TO EITHER A BORLA OR FLOWMASTER MUFFLER, THEN OUT THE BACK, POINTING TO THE SIDES, AFTER THE REAR WHEELS. OBVIOUSLY THERE ARE SOME CONSIDERATIONS, THINGS ARE NEVER THIS EASY. I UNDERSTAND THAT RUNNING THE PIPES MAY POSE PROBLEMS DEPENDING ON WHERE THEY ARE, IE..BRAKE LINES, SPARES, BUT SOMEONE HAS HAD TO OF DONE IT. HAS ANYONE PUT HEADERS ON THERE'S? THEY ARE OUT THERE, A LITTLE PRICEY, BUT THEY'RE THERE. ANY THOUGHTS WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
Anything is possible. I wouldn't bother with headers just because of the minimal gain they afford compared to the effort to install. If I wanted duals on my Expy, I'd cut the pipes (assuming your existing pipes are still sound) just before the stem in the "Y" and run two pipes and two mufflers out the right side (left side is tricky because of the fuel tank).
Striper,
I don't advise headers. I have a neighbor who put them on his '98. The brand name headers were pretty, and the
cheap part at $400. The installation charge was $800. The noise from the headers was so bad it hurt it hurt everyone's ears that rode with him. His wife wouldn' t get in it after the first time. He didn't mind because he was deaf anyway from too much Heavy Metal at loud volumes. Anyway, I rode around the block with him once and vowed never to do it again. The headers cracked after six months of marginal increae in performance. It cost him $400 to remove them and replace them with the originals. Now he has duals and his wife will ride with him. The duals decrease his groudn clearance because of the gas tank, shocks, etc. get in the way. Yep, it can be done, but maybe you dn't really want to have the result.
I have Dynamax headers. Don't think the hp gain s worth the time, money, noise. Wouldn't do it again, even thought the only real problem is on long uphill grades towing the trailer. It's not nice inside between 1800 and 2800 rpm. When these break or wear out, the originals will go back on. My mechanic said never bring back headers to his shop unless I am willng to pay twice the $500 dollars he charged to install them. Hope this helps.
I do appreciate the info. I apologize on the all CAPS, I am on my work computer and it has to be that way for our programs. Anyway, I am getting the feeling that the headers are going to be a waste of time. I was just always under the impression that when you throw a set of headers on, the sound is a lot better. Keep in mind that I am relating this to when I was younger and had muscle cars etc.... I am just wanting to get a real nice sound out of it. Everything that I hear, sounds like people saying that their cat back systems add a nice tone to the exhaust. Thats nice, but I would like something with a nice roar to it. Again, any more thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated. Also, does anyone know if they make Nascar truck series look-alike rims. My 98' is all blacked out and I think it would be a great addition, with a set of super low profile tires on it. Thanks again for the help.....

I have Hooker Max Flow mufflers on my '68. They supposedly flow as freely as a straight pipe. What I like most is they are fairly tame at idle and while cruising, but really scream at WOT. In my opinion they would be a great choice because they don't have an annoying low frequency rumble all the time.
