Has anyone found a good power source for a two way radio?
we use high power 20amp supply two ways at work and i would really like to not run wires outside the cab.
I have found this on the body builder website but cannot find the wire in the cab.
the middle section says a 40 amp yellow orange wire?
any one found this wire?
this is on i 2011 f550 with the 6.7
If you have the upfitter switches, then you can use the yellow wire. They are bundled up behind the dash under the steering column. Just ground the radio, COO
Nnect to this yellow wire, turn on Aux 1 and walla powered radio.
Search my thread here. Lots of pictures and I am sure you will get an answer to what you're asking. The only issue I've had with this set up is the connectors on the fuse block pulled apart. I need to get some clips to lock them in place...
The 10g wire straight to the battery like that is the method I've used on my previous 3 trucks. It works great. There is a company that makes DC circuit breakers I've used in the past, they are said to be waterproof but I have found after a few years under the hood they tend to fail. So I just went with the fuse and seal it all up nice.
Running a separate set of wires is generally the best practice, but if a slight voltage drop with current draw is acceptable to your application then use an upfitter, if equipped. I also did identify a wire that was ignition ACC-switched in the bundle under the dash that could be used to trigger a relay.
I don't know how the chassis cabs differ in terms of wiring though. I haven't done any radio installs on the latest generation F-550s.
