Changing guage cluster.

Hi there got a quick question here. On my 96 F250 XL, it doesn't have a factory tach I want to put a XLT guage package in to it. Question time, is this just a simple unplug the old one and put the new one in ? or is there some wiring to be done ??

I have seen posts about this before ... but unsure if it can be done or not ?

The wiring for the tach is already there..it's all just unplug the old cluster and in with the new. The mile's will change to the new cluster(Like if you originaly have 100k on the truck but you put a cluster from a different truck with 60k on it then it will read 60k in your truck when you do the swap) the dealership can adjust the odometer miles for you.I think I heard it was $90 though

Changing guage cluster.

So this is cool news!!! wireing is already there, cool!! just unplug one and plug in new, cool!, can the cluster come from any '92-'96 Fseries, or just the specific year that a given truck is? my '94 XLT doesn't have the tach, it must have been an option???

You can swap your old speedometer into the new cluster so you don't have to worry about different mileage. Each section of the cluster is separate.

There is a difference in the wiring for the voltmeter which would cause charging problems. I don't know the year it changed, so make sure it works alright before getting rid of the old cluster.

Yeah the wiring is there, but you can swap the speedos between the gauge clusters. Take the speedo out of the one you buy, and replace it with the one from your truck, so the mileage and tire conversions are the same.

Well it looks like everyone else has this topic covered, I'll just throw in a few more comments. I have completed this mod in my 93 with no problems. I would agree, take the cluster apart and change over your old speedo/odo. Also, check the bulbs while you have it out. When you buy a cluster, it doesn't matter if it is from a manual or an auto, all you have to do is switch over your part to the new one.(indicator or blank plate). I tried Dennis, spoke to Ken and they don't make them, no one makes them. I've looked everywhere.
