I have a 5.0 EFI out of a 95 F150 that I will be installing into my 74 F100 project. I just got finished stripping the 95 of the dash and column for the rest of the wire harness but now looking at it, it seems more reasonable to do a stand alone. My question is does any have any experience with this? I have searched a little and found that Painless Wiring offers one (for a mustang motor but I'm assuming I can still use it) just trying to get some input.
If I were you, i would take the fuel injection stuff off, get a regular intake and carb and install it on the engine. If you want to use a mechanical fuel pump, you will have to change out the timing cover and the camshaft eccentric. I would also install the regular v-belt setup and waterpump.
If you are very familiar with the Ford fuel injection system, then you can use it, but you will have to make many changes to your fuel tank/fuel system and there are a lot of wires.
You can check on Summit racing or Jegs, and research the stand alone fuel injection systems, but they are around $1000-up for the complete system. I believe Ford racing used to sell a harness for street rods, but I don't know if they still sell it or not.
I apologize for not being more clear on this. I am using the whole power plant and fuel system. Basically doing a body swap. There are some things I will not be using like ac/heat, abs brakes ect. that I will won't to remove from the harness. I have talked to a few companies and they all say that I should just use the stock harness or switch over to a mustang ecu, trans and intake then get a harness....so it looks like I will be keeping the stock truck harness and modifying it.
