Brief smoke on cold start
Whenever I have a cold start the engine fires right up with an immediate puff of smoke from the tail pipe (I'd say about 60% of the time, I think it may be bluish but not 100% sure). It never happens when warm. The interesting bit is that it did this both before and after a professional engine rebuild on the 351W. Included in the rebuild were a new water pump, intake manifold (edelbrock) and timing cover.
The exhaust components have remained the same.
Any ideas?

How about the heads?
Oil can leak past the valve guides when sitting for a few or more hours. Either worn guides or the valve stem seals can cause this.
The best fix is to use PC seals.
The easiest way to check it is to hook up an air compressor with an adapter that screws into a spark plug hole, after reading the plugs to find the offending cylinder(s).
Fill the chamber with air and listen for hissing to pinpoint where the leak is. If it sounds like it's coming from the top, it's the guides or seals. If you hear it at the oil pan it's rings but I doubt that if it doesn't smoke after warm up. (A ring could be damaged during installation or break in)
